Summary

An all-new, spicy murder mystery from Tessa Bailey, New York Times bestselling author of It Happened One Summer。。。

It was supposed to be a relaxing vacation in sweet, sunny Cape Cod—just me and my beloved brother—but discovering a corpse in our rental house really throws a wrench into our tanning schedule。 Now a rude, crude bounty hunter has arrived on the back of his motorcycle to catch the killer and refuses to believe I can be helpful, despite countless hours of true crime podcast listening。 Not to mention a fulfilling teaching career of wrangling second graders。

A brash bounty hunter and an energetic elementary schoolteacher: the murder-solving team no one asked for, but thanks to these pesky attempts on my life, we're stuck together, come hell or high tide。

I'm just here to do a job, not babysit an amateur sleuth。 Although…it is becoming less and less of a hardship to have her around。 Sure, she's stubborn, distracting and can't stay out of harm's way。 She's also brave and beautiful and reminds me of the home I left behind three years ago。 In other words, the painful hunger and protectiveness she is waking up in me is a threat to my peace of mind。 Before I sink any deeper into this dangerous attraction, I need to solve this murder and get back on the road。 But will fate take her from me before I realize the road has been leading to her all along?

I genuinely don’t know where to start in reviewing this book。 A murder mystery that very much takes second place to a romance that should have alarm bells ringing a mile off。Our main character is school teacher

She’s done it again A spicy romance between two unlikely people solving a case。 Very likable characters and beautifully written。 Tessa Bailey is rolling out the hits。

May be even a 2。5。 I’ve unfortunately been disappointed by Tessa Bailey’s releases this year and I STAN her but this was my biggest letdown。 At first I was leaning into the goofy vibes。 The insta love。 But then shit would get WEIRDThere was a comment made by Myles that said she was the right size for him - a little too snug, but not enough to feel guilty。 Sorry WHAT does that mean。 Guilty???? There’s already enough hints of her being childlike and him being a massive man but was this necessary。 May be even a 2。5。 I’ve unfortunately been disappointed by Tessa Bailey’s releases this year and I STAN her but this was my biggest letdown。 At first I was leaning into the goofy vibes。 The insta love。 But then shit would get WEIRDThere was a comment made by Myles that said she was the right size for him - a little too snug, but not enough to feel guilty。 Sorry WHAT does that mean。 Guilty???? There’s already enough hints of her being childlike and him being a massive man but was this necessary。 Maybe I’m jumping to worse conclusions but this felt weird af。 There’s also a scene in a church vestibule。 WHY。 Literally anywhere else。 Why partake in steamy af intercourse basically in a church。 This left such a weird fucking taste in my mouth and I have no clue why this was included。They could’ve done it anywhere else because there is also so much public…sex。 Hey like that’s fine but literally most of the scenes were。 It’s just fucking weird to me。 When he has a motel and she has a whole ass rental house。 I felt the insta love was too fast for me。 I usually let this slide with novellas because I think that’s expecting too much to build up chemistry in a short book。 But this went hard FAST。 Give me SOME angst。 Tension。 Something。 I think I could’ve let this go if all the other weird shit wasn’t going on。 The mystery aspect was what you can expect。 I didn’t think it would be mind blowing。 But I feel Tessa Bailey actually did a good job setting the scene and the eerie mood while along a romance plot。 I’m not a fan of cozy mysteries though so this part didn’t necessarily increase my enjoyment much。 That being said… I only enjoyed one scene。 THE BATHROOM?????? Honey, THIS is why I am here for Tessa Bailey。 She knows how to steam it up and make it heartfelt。 I think this scene is the sole reason for my rating。 I loved this and only this。 To be honest couldn’t invest much in Myles。 I think I had more of a crush on Taylor。 That’s just a side note lolHOPE SHE COMES OUT WITH MORE ILL STILL BE HERE TO READ HER BOOKS 。。。more

Was it kinda fun? sure。 Was the concept phenomenal? absolutely。 How did I feel about the execution? subpar。 It’s an everyday 3 from me。

I really liked this book, as it was a nice beach read and was a combination of my favorite genres。

Absolutely amazing。 Was it super cheesy that the man fell in love 0。2 seconds after seeing the woman and 0。1 second later was planning on sleeping with her? Yes。 Do I care? Absolutely not。 Plus, it’s refreshing to read a book where the man’s emotions are spilled out onto the page just as much as the woman’s。 🌶🌶🌶🌶🌶 - I’ll just leave that there。

This was really cute and had some laugh out loud moments, but it seemed to me this was definitely a book that was thrown together quickly and published just as quickly。 Jude was a great side character and didn't get enough page time。 Maybe she'll do another for him?? 🤞I was supposed to have read this on my Florida trip this week but it was canceled at the last minute because I got COVID 😥。 This would have been way more enjoyable on the beach but I digress。 This was really cute and had some laugh out loud moments, but it seemed to me this was definitely a book that was thrown together quickly and published just as quickly。 Jude was a great side character and didn't get enough page time。 Maybe she'll do another for him?? 🤞I was supposed to have read this on my Florida trip this week but it was canceled at the last minute because I got COVID 😥。 This would have been way more enjoyable on the beach but I digress。 。。。more

Honestly, how does anyone give this 5 stars? And I love It Happened One Summer。 This was ROUGH。

My only issue with this story was the vague secondary conflict between Jude and Dante。 That was never really explained。 But I loved Myles, loved Taylor。

I truly enjoyed reading this book。 Tessa Bailey did it again!!! She delivered a great story filled with mystery, a grumpy man, a sunshine female main character, laughter, love, and steam。 I found myself laughing out loud, shaking my head, wanting to become a detective, and also wanting to hit Myles in the head for being so stubborn。 It was a cute, steamy, wholesome book!!

This felt like a prompt entitled ‘fit as many tropes into one story as possible and…go!’ I love her other works, but this one was physically painful from about 20% in until the end… and I only did finish because I kept telling myself she’d redeem it in some witty way。

3。75? Idk not my favorite Tessa Bailey。 I really don't jive with the "true crime podcast junkie" vibes so Taylor annoyed me。 The steam was real though! Loved that!! 3。75? Fans of Tessa Bailey's steamy romances will NOT be disappointed。I alternated between the paperback and audio versions of this book and really enjoyed both。 Narrated by Ashley Rogers and Clementine Clover, this was a fun listen with a deliciously satisfying ending。 Highly recommended, this may just be my new favorite Tessa Bailey book yet!TW: PTSD 。。。more

3。5/3。75 (at best) the characters in this book felt cliche and underdeveloped, the mystery isn’t exactly predictable but you can see it coming if you pay attention; it felt way too rushed in the beginning…the main characters lack chemistry imo………。。

3。5。 This was a very Tessa Bailey book, complete with all the hypermasculine heteronormative overprotectiveness, but it was also a very fun read for a Sunday。 I appreciate that Bailey seems to take a lot of references from pop culture in her recent works - this one from True Crime podcasts。 I do feel bad that the heroine booked her entire vacation house based on it having a bathtub and I don’t think she ever got to take a bath in this book。 A tragedy。 Still, pretty fun read。 Really loved the bro 3。5。 This was a very Tessa Bailey book, complete with all the hypermasculine heteronormative overprotectiveness, but it was also a very fun read for a Sunday。 I appreciate that Bailey seems to take a lot of references from pop culture in her recent works - this one from True Crime podcasts。 I do feel bad that the heroine booked her entire vacation house based on it having a bathtub and I don’t think she ever got to take a bath in this book。 A tragedy。 Still, pretty fun read。 Really loved the brother character, Jude。 Give him a sequel, please。 。。。more

3。75 stars! This was super fun! I read this in one sitting。 It is relatively short and also just a great time, so it was easy to blast right through it。 This is a "cozy murder mystery" romance, which is not something I have really read before。 But hello it's Tessa Bailey so I was going to pick it up no matter what。 Essentially, this felt like a novella to me。 It is on the shorter side and it also just drops you into the lives of these characters without a ton of backstory of buildup。 The romance 3。75 stars! Jude was so funny, I loved his quips and jokes。 The banter between Taylor and Myles was also great, as well as just the situational humor inherent in this silly premise。 It actually felt like I was reading a movie, if that makes sense。 Just the way everyting played out and the way the scens transitioned throuhgout the book, it felt like a movie in my head。 The classic Tessa Bailey smut was definitely on point here too。 Much spice! She writes some of the best smut and dirty talk I have ever read。 I did think the random Daddy was odd, as well as the unfortuante use of "johnson。" But overall it was hot hot hot。 Again you kind of have to roll with it all and it is hard to be completely invested in the character's and the romance so quickly, but its so fun, funny, sexy, and written very well! Definitely an enjoyable read。 。。。more

This was such a fun, summery romance! I really loved the blend of genres here, though I had to admit that I wish the mystery component of the story had been a little bit more prominent and constant。 Sometimes I felt like it fell into the background and our two main characters would forget what was at hand。 But the romance part was incredible! I absolutely loved both Taylor and Myles, and their chemistry was off the charts。

A new favorite! This is the first story that I have read from Tessa Bailey and it did not disappoint。 The perfect mix of sweet and spicy! Highly recommend。
